Application Guide

Applications for the M.A. in Theatre Education are being accepted through July, 2008

Deadline for applications for M.F.A. Playwriting and M.A. History, Criticism and Dramaturgy programs is March 30, 2008.

The M.F.A. programs for Directing and for Acting enroll one class every three years. The next class will be enrolled Fall 2009

1. Complete the online application including the essay at http://graduate.cua.edu

2. Have three letters of recommendation and all transcripts sent to:

3.  Take the GRE - The Catholic University institution code for reporting your score is 5104
(This is a University requirement for all graduate applicants)

4.  Send a copy of your resume/cv to the Office of Graduate Admissions

Once your application has been reviewed you will be contacted by the Drama Department to schedule a visit to campus to audition and interview.  You are invited to visit classes and meet with current students as well as meet with the Chair and sit in on a performance or rehearsal - ideally you will spend most of the day on campus, so allow plenty of time.

ACTORS will be asked to present 2 two-minute monologues: one classical, one modern, one comic, one serious.

DIRECTORS will be sent instructions for preparing a brief directing exercise to present at the interview, working with students in the department.

PLAYWRIGHTS: in addition, send in 2 or 3 examples of your extended dramatic writing - this could be a one-act play plus at least one longer piece - send what you believe to be your best work.

MA applicants: in addition, send in one writing sample - a critical essay or research paper
