A Teacher of Theatre

The Master of Arts in Theatre Education - MATE - degree program is the newest of five graduate theatre programs offered by the Drama Deaprtment of The Catholic University of America.

Designed specifically to accommodate the schedules of working teachers, classes are offered in the evenings and during summer sessions.:

The MATE degree program is the only one of its kind in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Consider the MATE degree program if you are - or want to be:
Build or enhance your abilities to develop creativity in young people via the art form of theatre. Increase your professional skills, both the practical and theoretical, with MATE courses that focus on theatre teaching methods, design, western theatre and culture, and a variety of educational topics.
A Drama/Theatre Teaching Artist
Increase your effectiveness as an artist who delivers drama and theatre experiences in educational settings. The MATE coursework provides a solid grounding in the educational aspects of theatre and production, the use of drama as a learning method, and other educational issues and practices.
A Teacher of Arts-Integrated Classroom Drama Lessons
Add arts-integrated drama learning strategies to your teaching repertoire. Learn ways to actively and productively involve students in the study of other curriculum topics via drama while earning the Masters degree required by most school systems.
A Director of Theatre Education
Enhance your credentials as a theatre professional who runs one of the education departments integral to nearly all major theatres nationwide. Strengthen your understanding of issues important to the artists, educators and students who participate in your programming.
