Reading and Discussion Series 2012-2013

In addition to our outstanding season of plays, CUAdrama is pleased to again present a new audience favorite, our Readings and Discussion Series. Focusing on new or rarely produced worked and contemporary issues each staged reading is followed by a lively discussion between expert panelists from diverse fields, audience members, cast, and the director.

Eric Bentley’s
Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been
Directed by Marietta Hedges

a co-production with Theater J

During the 1950’s fear of communist influences and infiltrators in America led House Un-American Activities Committee to harass and question prominent figures in the arts and entertainment industry. Bentley focuses on the testimony of anguished witnesses who were forced to choose between incriminating their friends and colleagues or bearing the consequences of silence.

In addition to a post-show discussion, each Are You Now or Have You Ever Been reading will also include a taped video interview Marietta Hedges had with the 96-year-old Eric Bentley, long a significant figure in American Theatre as theatre critic, playwright, educator, translator and editor.
